Retro office If the telephone interview ended an hour ago and the interviewee still wants to talk about his former mafia dealings. Important points to keep in mind during a telephone interview: Send questions in advance: Unless the interview is an investigative conversation where it is important to catch the interviewee's unprepared reaction, it is a good idea to send your interview questions to the interviewee in advance. This allows the interviewee to think things through beforehand, especially in interviews that involve an expert topic. Small talk/introduction at the beginning: A telephone interview is much more personal than a written interview. The most important thing here is how you start the interview.

For example, you can first thank the interviewee for having time, ask whether Special Data they have had a chance to look at the questions and then move on to the interview. But the following applies here: This is not for everyone and before it is unpleasantly forced, it is better to get in quickly. Recording the interview: As already noted, if you are doing a telephone interview, it is a good idea to record it. On the one hand, you can conduct the conversation more freely during the interview because you don't have to write everything down, and on the other hand, parts of the conversation don't get lost and you can quote more easily. However, you should continue to take notes, because your notes will help you find the common thread when you write it down later.

Before you start recording, you should ask your interview partner whether he or she is okay with you recording the interview. Take breaks: Each of us is probably afraid of awkward pauses during a conversation. However, during a telephone interview, it is important that we do not overreact and try to ask questions too quickly. It can happen that the interviewee was not able to finish his train of thought. Therefore, after the supposed end of an answer, leave a few seconds pause before you continue with the next question or ask. On site An on-site interview has the advantage that you are even more personal with your interview partner and can support the interview through body language.
